We're currently facing issues with our network provider, France has currently gone dark but Canada/London servers appear to be running ok. The CDN is currently down and we're unaware when it'll be back. You may notice attactments/images break during this time. Nothing is lost and backups are already taken.
People may have noticed I've been away the past week or so. Here's a small update to those reasons and some general progress updates.
To start, I've been sick the past few weeks and stuck on some shit kicking meds. I was told to get some rest by the doctor who decided not to put me down. ?
The first part of this update has alot of speculation as we still don't know the full story. What we do know is this all happened around the same time and appears to be connected, and for these reasons I won't be naming those involved for protection and if you wish to read it'll be included in a spoiler. This part doesn't affect the site directly but has lead to me having to take time away.
Yep it's one of those ?
Late last year I was contacted by a group of users wishing me to middle man a transaction, this is nothing new as I've helped a few users with this. The only...
As you may well be aware by now - unless you live under a rock - the year 2020 is upon us. With the new decade will come many changes, features and goodies to OG as a whole! In this post, I wanted to outline some of the things we have been working on behind the scenes, potential changes and new features coming to OG in 2020.
To the surprise of me and some of the other staff members, one of the most requested additions to the site is OG branded merchandise. I have been hard at work on designing a plethora of goodies ranging from shirts, coffee mugs, lanyards, mouse mats and more! We are currently investigating methods to integrate merchandise to certain tiers of our Patreon page, but will also be selling merchandise individually to users who want to get something as a one-off purchase. I want to make it clear that users that do decide to purchase merch from our store will not recieve any special privileges over other users to keep things fair...
A few months ago before I got super tied up.. I asked how people would feel about small donations to make sure AG 2.0 didn't happen here. Most of the comments were positive and I setup a patreon but never launched it, Till now!
Currently it's setup to cover purely site expenses and won't be used for anything personal. In the future we'd like to expand into covering group buys, etc. I've left two tiers, one for those who prefer the forums and one for people who prefer both forum and discord.
The part I personally dislike here is Patreon does this as a monthly donation, You're welcome to cancel after a month and remain a donator still, with the same perks as someone who donates monthly. (It's not mandatory to help/donate! and the site will stay the same and ad free.) I'll look into options for monthly donators such as early access/discounted merch we have planned next year. ?
I've listed all our site expenses rounded up and converted to USD which isn't much, but it least covers...
We've spotted a few people requesting rom/downloads's for retail systems, we'd just like to remind without telling anybody off that we do not support/allow retail data to be posted. If you own retail stuff and wish to sell your original copy this is fine clearly, but not copies.
We have to respect companies and their rights, more so with our goals to become a registered preservation group.
I'm not mentioning any names as stated, just a kind a kind reminder for those who don't understand.
If you have futher questions please PM a staff member, or tag one of us on our Discord.
EDIT: Since posting this we have decided to convert the custom system to XenForo 2.1 as it's easier to manage and enables search.
As announced awhile ago, we've built a database of all AG posts/threads thanks to Alpha and many other AG members who put help in.
This is now live at https://assembler-games.com/ but is only static, i.e you cannot login so no personal data is included nor private messages.
A few sections don't currently work, and the category's aren't shown right in the breadcrumbs, 0th bit also isn't fully added yet but it should be usable. If you find any bugs please let me know thank you!
Avatars aren't currently added, but will be in time. you may get the odd 500 error, if you do just refresh after a minute or so and it'll load. Search features will also be added in time.
With ASSEMblerGames.com going down at the end of the month one of our moves has been building OG, along wth a static archive of the site, we've released a few different types of backups so far, along with others by Nemesis/more to come by archive.org etc.
What have we done so far? We've bought assemblergames.net in auction, along with https://www.assembler-games.com/ the .com being the main site to host the archive.
Alpha wrote a custom Python script to crawl the site and populate a database which'll be hosted on A-G.com once the site goes done. Akira has been writing a front end for it based on the style AG is using currently.
We'll post more as always, just a minor update to the things going on.
We also have new stuff coming shortly, so keep an eye out OG
Would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone. Starting a new forum is a very chicken and egg situation - people don't register as there's no content and there's no content because no one registers.
So far we have had hundreds of users register and more importantly - you guys are posting and bringing over posts of value from assemblergames.
I couldn't be more proud of how this community has banded together to make this happen. You have all taken the challenge and ran with it - exceeding all expectations.
From me and all the staff (and the community at large) - Thank you all!
As you may have read AssemblerGames is closing, with not much time to plan ahead I decided to run around like a headless chicken trying to put a plan in action. You'd think this is a joke but it's not, I was awake over 24 hours making this new forum and putting plans in action. even my last few minutes awake were talking things through with Bad_Ad84 in bed. ?
So far, all's going to plan which is good! but there's many many issues going forward.
What do we do about about saving AG itself? It's there I'm hoping @Bad_Ad84 can manage to buy the site. But there's the issue that Kevin may refuse to respond and close it still meaning we need a plan B. This plan B was to bring OG back with a fresh start for old and new users alike. Launching it now gives users time to join before the mass fallout of AG going possibly dark. Backups are still in progress of public content from AG, but...
Today a huge blow was landed on the community, Kevin the owner of AssemblerGames announced the sites closure within 30 days.
With not much time to plan ahead, I've temporarily closed our other site Prototopia and transferred the PT license to OG. This has given me the chance to relaunch OG which thankfully I got the domain back for after the old owner closed it.
I'm currently trying to archive as much of AssemblerGames as possible and will post the archive here once it's finished. It'll be around 20GB.
I'm not wishing to tread on anybody toes, nor start drama and this relaunch is simply to give the community someplace safe to reside incase the worst outcome of AG really closing happens.
This new OG is being rebuilt from scratch, with community input, so for now it'll be very basic features wise. If you wish to chat with us you can join the OG/PT Discord with the following link: https://discord.gg/dNYnFwp this will give temporary access to the AG-Future room.
