Saturn 3D model of Sega Saturn prototype shell

I have 3D modelled the prototype shell of the Sega Saturn (CES 1994 model). I will release the obj, material and texture files later this week but for now it can be viewed at:


My hope is that with the wireframe model, modders can build RPi enclosures and other fun stuff (with some modification it could even make a retail unit enclosure).

I assume that Sega's original idea was to have wireless controllers as one can clearly see the "IR control system" spot on the front. Sega released wireless controllers later as a separate accessory...more info here. What do you suppose they were planning to put underneath that little control panel on the front? Maybe some controller ports for wired controllers?
 
Yeah my assumption is there’d be two controller ports hidden behind that panel; however part of me thinks they just didn’t have time to model the ports so ‘cheated’ by just putting that panel there for the mock-up
