Enemy Zero Special Edition (Wooden box).

IMO one of the oddest / most interesting LEs ever. Hand delivered to the lucky buyers back in the day by Kenji Eno (RIP) himself! There's a great 1UP interview with KE - archive link http://archive.is/gSQcg - where he touches on this (pages 6 and 7 on the interview and copied below (the whole interview is well worth a read if you never have)).

"1UP: We also heard about an incredibly limited edition of Enemy Zero that you offered...and also hand-delivered across Japan! What's the story behind that?

KE:
It's true -- we made only 20 of them, and it cost roughly $2,000. So if you paid that, I would hand-deliver it to you. So I got in the truck and delivered it.

1UP: How far did you have to go to deliver them?

KE:
It sold out really fast, but I was really lucky, because I was really worried that someone in Hokkaido [Japan's northernmost island] would buy one, or I would have to go somewhere far away. Fortunately, that didn't happen, as everything was mostly nearby.

1UP: Really? This was in the days before MapQuest, too, so it could've been a big pain in the ass for you.

KE:
I wanted to do that for a long time. Like, actually give the product to the customers. I wanted to do that for a long time, so I was really happy to do it.

1UP: Were there any interesting stories about the people you delivered Enemy Zero to? Did anyone invite you to dinner? Were there any hot-chick gamers who bought it?

KE:
People did try to invite me in, but my time was very limited. I spent 30 minutes with each person, but that was the time limit. So we wouldn't have dinner or anything like that. But I was able to talk with the fans and share interesting stories. Were there any hot chicks? Nope."

In terms of numbers, 20 is the commonly cited figure, even by KE. Back in the mid 2000's there was an auction for a copy and the seller had this to say...

"こちらのシリアル番号は”No.22”です。20個限定なのに”22”なのは、飯野氏から確か1個は自分が、もう一つは会社(どこかは不明)に作ったので22になったと聞いた記憶があります(うろ覚えで申し訳ありません)

実は自分が「キャンセル待ち」で手に入れた”最後の一人”でして、その意味ではこちらは”最後の1個”というかなり貴重な物です
。"

There was also this pic in the auction

No. 22....jpg

Which does look like 22, so...?

ANYWAY, onto some pics of my one, which a great friend helped me to acquire 11-12 years ago from a well known JP auction site! No. 8, 55cm cube, heavy when held at arm's length during a prolonged careful extraction from the corner of an overflowing collection room with little to no space from floor to ceiling!

Box.

I have a different colour labelled video tape that looks to be the same that was a press one I believe. Will compare the two at some point.

The gatefold flyer is larger than the standard one.

The weapon replica has a decent heft. Apparently it, and the above 'outfit' (TGS 1996 Warp Booth) were designed by Yasushi Nirasawa.

WOW! Now that is a very special Limited Edition, I remember reading that 1UP interview, an amazing story and so unique!

This was something I searched for years and years with no luck at all, not sure I would be able to afford it if I ever found one anyway.

The CD looks like a prototype and I bet the FD has assetts etc.

It's an odd one. 2008 seemed to be the year that these had a small ownership reorganisation. You know how it is, one was listed, it hit just over 600k yen, so a few more came out of the woodwork over the following months, all of which sold, save one that took until late 2009 to sell (the cheapest for (a measly) 258k yen...but it was incomplete...lol...).

Somewhat scarce since haha.

Being honest, I suspect one might change ownership later this year or next ;) hence this picture thread...I've sold a couple of very obscure / virtually unknown items over the last few years that I regret not doing something similar with, just to get a bit of info and some pics out there...I think even poor quality photos such as mine are better than nothing / what is (was) out there. Live and learn!!!

Yeh man it's great to see it, that sometimes tends to happen with something of this scarcity, one shows up goes big and then a few others follow. I suposse the visibility entices others out the woodwork or even people thinking "I have one of those in a cupbard, is it really worth that much?"........

There is very little other info and pics out there so glad you decided to share. It all helps preservation. (y)

Some extra bits and bobs E0 related. If you're going to buy the crate, might as well add to the overall set. None of the below came with the Special Box Edition.

Some music stuff.

That different colour labelled video tape I mentioned above.

A mag with a KE interview and a few hints. Enemy Zero the Graphics is a wonderful thing.

WOW. I read about the SE but never actually seen pictures of it. Thanks so much for the posts :). Speaking of Enemy Zero it was kind of said SEGA never looked to make a Mpeg version, like GameArts did with Lunar complete.

I was always curious about this limited edtion in details, especially this CD, was it a prototype?
