Hello, I am trying to mount a cdi image of this game with a translation into Spanish, the case that the mounted image works without problems in emulator, and in a jap console that I have, but the problem comes in Pal consoles.

The game starts correctly until the main menu, but once I start a new game, the console returns me to the bios.
I have already recorded as 7 cds of 100 minutes, each with different configurations, and tested on 3 different pal consoles and in all tests the same thing happens.

In each test I have tried with a sort.txt, changing some things, but there must be a bad file layout.
The fact is that I no longer know what to think, since in the Jap console the game works without problems, but in the pal no.

Can anybody help me?
I need to create an 80 min version and a 100 min version

well not only i had similar but same issues as you have. i hope i can help. i dont think an ntsc-j console can be more permisive to an incorect or real bad created cdi. maybe your cds are either bad quality, or bad batch of cds that result to bad backup, or a recorder that was worn out. then the ntsc-j console maybe have better contition lens compare to pal ones youve try. now to solutions try burn to verbatim or tayo yunden cd the 80 min image, if that plays then its the 100 min cds issue. solution 2 open the upper cover of the ntsc-j console, then in the right corner of the gdrom you will see its operation volatge it will be either 5v or 3.3v. then open one of your pal ones if you found a gdrom that match the ntsc-j voltage make a swap of the gdroms and try. i can also try the image my self on my pal dreamcast via gdemu. you can give me the cdi in private. and dont worry i wont leak it anyware just like before

I do not think it is a CD issue, since the ones I use have had no problems in any game, besides the 80 min version suffers the same problem, recorded in Verbatim AZO, and in which I have never had problems

I think the problem is a bad optimization of files in the sort.txt and in which the laser has a hard time reading the disk.
In gdemu it works correctly just like in emulator.

I have the DCRES version recorded on an AZO verbatim and it doesn't give me this problem either, and that is why it has a different optimization. It has all the SFD of the game in the first session.

In a moment I pass the files

ok ive seen on the game. its working fine on gdemu. my original gdrom was broken and i have trash it long ago. so its propably the way the iso is build is stressfull for the lasser. your ntsc-j console have a stong lasser and can manage it. now i have read a long ago that backups with track 2 (data) on lba 11702 like the one youve build are more stressfull than the newer that their track 2 is on lba 45000. try to use @FamilyGuy sefboot data that creates backups on 45000 lba it worh a shoot. if you dont have it i can give it to you. also if the evil dead is patched to run on lba 11702 you need to either find a clean gdi or undo the lba patches

If I have the FamilyGuy package for lba 45000, but if I do it that way I will still have to downsanpling more the SFD

I created an iso using sfd at the beginning of the disk, editing the sort.txt, tomorrow I'll try it

If the selfboot is properly padded, the difference between 11702 and 45000 should be negligible.

A lot of old badly optimised releases are done in 11702 though, so maybe that's where the misconception comes from?
Correlation ≠ Causation and all that.

@Pitito did you change the language in the bios? I think I remember that some games would hang if the bios language isn't the default. IIRC Trickstyle NTSC would hang on a NTSC console with NTSC bios if the bios is set to French.

Also you can actually fit 302 kiB more game data in a 45000 data/data selfboot than in a 11702 audio/data one. That's a big 0.0436407903576822146% extra data on a 80m CD-R!

@FamilyGuy for evil dead i think language in bios doent matter. he have played it fine in ntsc-j console. but if that make a difference ive played it with english language in bios. for the lba stuff i think youre right its a rummor because of bad optimized data. while your selfboot 45000 make good optimazation. i would like your sfd downsample script. ive try it before 3 years ago and the results were great. lot of size reduced but video quality very little. @Pitito if that selfboot program cant create a good optimezed cdi. then use sefboot 45000. sure a data 2 track starting at lba 45000 will hold a bit less data compared to lba 11702 more downsample but if thats the way so be it. the 100 min cd will be great either way. and if any of those that want this translated game really want the best. they will burn to a compatible cd the 100min image anyway

i would like your sfd downsample script. ive try it before 3 years ago and the results were great.

It might have a small error in there, I'm not sure. In any case I can fix it if you tell me the error it spits.

thanks. ive remember an error i had fix it. it was a command on the .bat
I created that script very rapidly seven (!) years ago, for smith I think maybe? atreyu. So I don't remember much about it really.

If you could describe the fix here it could be useful for others in the futur!

after REM kvcd quantization matrix for optimal quality and compression, thanks atreyu187 for the tip!
the correct is....

set %inter_matrix=-inter_matrix
set %intra_matrix=-intra_matrix

false

set %inter_matrix=-intermatrix
set %intra_matrix=-intramatrix

Well, I have already been able to correct the problem.

It is as I commented previously, a bad optimization of files in the cdi, due to sort.txt

The previous tests and in which the game returned you to the bios on a pal console, were with the 1st at the beginning and at the end of the disc.
With this modification I leave the 1st more or less in the middle of the disk, the SFD being at the beginning and the rest of the files behind the 1ST
Now my Pal consoles have no trouble reading it
Both versions work, 80 and 100 min, with LBA 11702

The previous tests and in which the game returned you to the bios on a pal console, were with the 1st at the beginning and at the end of the disc.
With this modification I leave the 1st more or less in the middle of the disk, the SFD being at the beginning and the rest of the files behind the 1ST
Now my Pal consoles have no trouble reading it
Both versions work, 80 and 100 min, with LBA 11702
It'd still put the 1st_read at the end of the disc as a general best practice.

The bios won't boot an executable that has a lba that's too low normally, although that might only be for gdroms.

If you use the kvcd script, I strongly suggest to watch the resulting videos before doing a release. It has great quality for low bitrate most of the time, but very rarely it can create green artefacts. I've only seen it once, but it's worth checking.

On launching the executable with LBA too low, I think it will only occur in GDROM, since many old releases almost always the 1st is on the 11700 or 11702, and do not give any problem.
I only use your selfboot pack 45000 LBA that the game allows me by size and I don't have to downsampling SFD.
For downsampling SFD, I usually use Dreamcast Movie Creator

By the way, your pack has a little bug when creating 100 min releases, it doesn't always happen, but with some games it has happened to me that when mounting the .nrg image, with Daemoon Tools to later create a cdi with discjuggler, it gives you some time vastly outdated, and creates cdi images of incalculable weight, as I are forced to cancel cdi image creation.
However, if I reduce that same game weight, to leave it in 90 or 80 min, if it works well.

That's weird about the 100min bug. It probably has more to do with Daemon Tools though. The timestamps are inserted by mkisofs. 100min is really stretching the CD-Rom standard to its limit.

I've personally made a bunch of 98+min selfboots with my own tools without any issues.

Daemon Tools is probably not compatible with such heavy nrg images
I think I remember one of the ones that happened to me was the stupid invaders

I have not tried another tool

You have virtua clone drive with sheep logo.
It's strange because i boot recvx with nrg format and daemon tool, but I'm using chankast.

Normally the @FamilyGuy pack works perfect.

They are only exceptional cases with very heavy images, when when mounting the image with Daemoon Tools and trying to create a cdi, it gave me a disproportionate time.

I thought maybe it could be the .nrg image, but it could also be the Daemon Tools

before a friend of mine swap to gdemu. i record cds for him using clone cd. i havent make a lot of burns using clone cd to safely say it is ok for dc. but if discjuggler dont like the mounted nrg, you can give clone cd a try maybe it not error out with big size images.
