Something I've always wondered about, but never tested myself... are there any PS1 cheat discs that actually worked with PS3? For example, Gameshark or Action Replay. I haven't had any PS1 cheat devices for years, but the one I used to own plugged into the back of the console so would obviously not function with a PS3. On the other hand, a lot of disc-based ones required a unique memory card, and PS3 only has the option of virtual cards on the HDD. So even if a disc did load, this may be an issue unless standard memory cards were compatible (like with Action Replay on Gamecube).

Feels like this is probably very unlikely, but I am considering taking a chance on one or two online to test anyway. Any input would be appreciated.

There's an official USB adapter for PS3 consoles so you can use older memory cards (there should be at least one non-genuine one as well, maybe more).
Pretty sure both PS1 & 2 cards are supported but I don't have an adapter myself.

Dunno about cheat discs, never tried one.

Wow, surprisingly I never knew about that adapter. Sounds like something I need immediately, hah.

I can think of other reasons why cheat discs might still not work, but knowing about that adapter might make it at least a bit more likely.

Right on. Funny, I was just chatting with somebody about the PocketStation today.

This adapter definitely isn't overly cheap from sellers online anymore, but I think I'll be getting one soon regardless.

I had gameshark for PS1, the version that used a gameshark dongle in the mem card slot and ran off a CD. We tried using it on my friend's fat PS2 and it would load the program but then the cheat selecting program would run so extremely slowly it was unusable. It worked fine on my normal fat PS1.

Right on, that's interesting to know. The gameshark CD/dongle is one I was considering buying to test with PS3. Wonder if the results will be any different.
