Hi folks, trying to source some more information on this rather odd SG-1000 II.

I have managed to find a little bit of info here on SMSPower! From Bock : https://www.smspower.org/forums/123...rototypeCGCHomeTerebiGameAsobiNoTensai#113040

So basically it’s an SG-1000 II with a printed emblem that reads

CGCホームテレビゲーム
 遊びの天才
 セガのソフト使用

Roughly translated
CGC Home TV Game
Genius' play
Use with Sega software

So anyone have any knowledge of origin or purpose?

Is it a brand or an event as suggested? Or something else? Anything as a starting point would be good, thanks.

You've got no chance of finding information about that system. Even Japanese sites have no idea of the origin. Only Sega themselves would know or maybe even they won't know.

What I can tell you is CGC is a company that basically one that dabbles in a variety of operations although its main focus in a super market. I have seen laminator machines with CGC logo on it so maybe at one point they worked with Sega for a store branded system kind of like the Toys R US Sonic Saturn. Here is the Japanese wiki entry for CGC https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/シジシージャパン

Yes, the Sega SG-1000 predates the Master System, which also has only 2 buttons. In the early 80's not many consoles had more than that.

Thanks Yakumo.

I always knew the chances were going to be slim and It’s likely that the details have been lost to the sands of time, but hey you never know until the ask the question.

It seems there have been a number of collaborations between retailers and video game systems over the years, you mention Toys R Us and I believe stores such Lawson have done a similar thing.

It’s a plausible theory!
