Hi all,

Recently, I got a bunch of Gamecube NR Discs from a former Video Game Magazine employee, and it the lot, there was a kind of disc I haven't already seen.

As pictured below, it is a gamecube disc that looks double sided. At the moment, I was only able to check the content on one side of the disc. It is a version of ISS 3 (DOL-GJ3P) I was able to play on my retail PAL gamecube. I am not sure if there is any data on the other side of the disc, or if it is only a production disc that has not been printed correctly.

Have you guys and girls already seen this kind of disc ?

I am wondering if development studios could send production errors discs to journalist, to review their games, in order to spare money.

I have two discs like this.
They are not double sided, or NR discs, that is a test-pressing. They don't bother putting the label on the other side of these.

They would make an initial small batch of discs to verify tooling for disc pressing works properly before starting up mass production. The disc will be retail byte for byte.

They're still pretty neat, and I definitely see them less often than NR discs, through the data will generally always be 100% final.

My guess is that these are the same as the Dreamcast "silver" discs, which are the full final product minus the disc art. Basically these are from the last test run, before they start pressing the game in big quantities.

Thanks for your answers mates !

I knew it wasn't a NR disc, but I thought it was a bad pressed disc. I Haven't realised it could be a test-pressing disc, like the Dreamcast Silvers Wombat is refering too ;) (long time no speak mate)

Then it make sens that there is no artwork on the disc. But what is strange, is that this was sent to a magazine for review/preview. Probably a way to avoid useless money loss.

Anyway, I will undig my TDEV to see what are exactly the data on the disc. I will let you know what I find ;)

Judging by the marking on the disc, it's going to be J-League Perfect Striker 5 - also note that if it's like every other one of those test discs I've ever seen it won't boot on a TDEV because it will have standard retail scrambling on the data.

DOL-GJ3P is ISS 3 ;) (J-League Perfect Striker 5 has been released on gamecube in Japan under a different name " Jikkyō World Soccer 2002 ". And the Dol marking for that game DOL-GJ2P after few researches, but I'am really not a specialist).

You are right ! I was looking to use my TDEV but I totally forgot that it can't read retail discs. I will use a Wii then, just need to install the Homebrew Chanel.
