It takes a lot of time, I think I'm not so far about a good main title and main menu.
But how have you done for edit and inject the alpha layer in pvr ?

I just start to edit the documents and I think I will have the same problem.

Thanks for your help. I'm so disliking the pvr format of this game.

because of you i review some things i did back. for main menu, i didnt do anything special. i obtain the adv.afs from @Pitito i extract it with afs util and found the file that is main menu, i think is file_3 then i extract the pvrs from file 3 they are 3 pvrs inside it and i inject with my hex editor the file_001-file_002.pvr and their paletes (pvp) to kazenban complete file_3. the file_003.pvr is the texts of the main menu to them i didnt replace that because the kazenban file_003.pvr is already english. as pitito say that file_003.pvr must be edited for use with your language. he give you a bmp before some days you have to edit that and convert it to .pvr. (i cant help you here) yes the documents will take some time i think it took me 5 days. then its recomended to test them inside game to verify that appear corect and have all the texts as the original have. although the japanese pages are fewer compare to francais game, as well compare to any european language. you will have to write 2 pages of original and more some times to one pvr. to fit the documents

Ok we can't change the number of pages. I'll be carefull. I'm sorry to make you go through all these files again.

For alpha layer, hope @Pitito will can help me, I'll try others options of PVR software we have.
And Yes his pack with BMP are very helpfull :)

fafadou For the alpha layer you can use the same texture as the normal one, just give the text a little more shine :)

i have made a rest of europe complete font based on your arrow fix @fafadou and i have beat the game just to make sure every time and on every thing the arrow is position correct, and it is. so if you guys havent make a font based on this fix, and you want, it just tell me, i will upload it

@truemaster : Thanks for your very good explanations, very easy to follow. I did my first pages in french for documents :)

Thanks for your help for pvr, you can play with pvr like a cigarette with your fingers and it's very impressive, but I can't...
Could you explain to me more how I can patch the alpha layer ? I don't know where is it in the datas, and I can't extract it with standard tools... I have to understand more how it works. I'll try to the best by myself, but if you could help me a last time, it will be very nice.

I feel very close to an end, and it's very enjoying and motivating :)

inject that to your file_2 of system.afs. google windhex, and from @Pitito you need the table of characters. for the alpha layer i cant help you but if i were to try something is to black out the trial thing that pops in main menu. if the new-load game-battle mode-options and dificulty is appear right and trial thing is not visible after blacking it out, then one corection is the capcom ltd thing in the bottom. and write mode select ( whatever is called in france) in the empty space between confiquration and sound museum. for rdx google rps decompressor and puyo tools. decompress one load it in your hex editor and show me screenshoots. not all of them have the same work

With this and with windhex, you can extract the text of the documents of the original French version

For the alpha layer of the menu, it is not necessary to extract anything.
You create your texture translated into French, you make a copy of this same texture, and to this copy you give a little more contrast, and rename it as alpha.

With winpvr, you create the pvr with the same parameters as the original and you will have it

well i have a good excuse to publish a patch. not only that include the arrow fix. but i found a problem to a battle mode map i have missplace a pointer to texts. if you eliminate all the zombies and prossed to next map all ok if you dont kill all of them a buggy text will appear and the map will freeze

Just for giving news during I'm translating documents. i still continue on my rythme when I find time.
the table done by @Pitito is very useful, after some converts to ascii standard, I can copy directly to the picture from a .txt file.
It's very good.
At the end of a document you have a pvr that is written "EXIT", I wish to replace it by "SORTIE" in french, but I didn't find it in the 159 files of ITEM.AFS before the 160 of the beginning of documents files... May you remember where it is ? Anyway I'll find it, don't worry :)


I confess, I'll give up for now the pvr for main screen, but just for now ;-)

I noticed the intro of RECVX finish by a beautiful huge "X", the jap version has a "complete" written in Japanese. Have you import the whole video from ps2 version or just the end ? the result is very impressive.

@truemaster : I try to google "rps decompressor and puyo tools" but I thing I didn't find the good tools. I dind't find anything only this by google rdx and not rds... In my opinion it's not good :

For puyo this one looks good, could you confirm it please :


Have you find an issue for the pointer in battle mode ?

the exit on files isnt on pvr and i doudt that is on afs either propably 1st_read.bin. i dont know for sure. puyo is the right one. but here the complete tools for the job
when you extract it you will see a bat file right click to edit that, read my coments inside and edit accordingly for decompressing the rdx. the compress back after editing is done with puyo and compress method rps. the battle mode is fixed. it was one mistake when editing the texts i input wrong address at the start pointer on the top of the uncopressed rdx and it has slip from my testing. but if the ppf patches are applyed this will be corrected along with the new arrow fix. i would have some free time so give me your adv.afs i will try to fix it along with some game over voices that needed inside it for the complete version

Ok I'll find the .bat and your explanations, I'll try it this evening.

here my ADV.AFS patch with the 00.bin I just replace the eidos logo than black and white, you can take it
02.bin with file 1 and 2 as RECVX and file 3 with french pvr and palette
files 04 and 05 from french version
all of others .bin from RECVX version.

please undreastand that i will try to fix your main menu. but i havent make this kind of modification before i cant qurantee. i will create a new bmp and allign the text the a new pvr.
EDIT @fafadou please provide a clean france adv.afs. i dont know why but this one shown corrupted. i cant extract it.
but i can extract the pvrs i need also somethings to translate for me here have a look it needs a little more work but is ok

I definitively miss something important, I tried all format and colors here :

With your clear explanations in the bat file. I can create my uncompress rdx files easily :)
And I refind a paper print ^^ of the @Pitito instructions that I save before AG forum goes down :

How to compress the rdx file since the edit is done.

May you have an issue for this last point ?

I was so impress by the pvr of mainscreen, I forgot to answer you, I'm sorry :
In this format the accents are not necessary in french so please don't bother you with them :

MODE SELECT : in exact french "SELECTION DU MODE" will be too large I guess so simply "MODE" will be perfect
VS GAME : VERSUS
VERY EASY : "TRES FACILE" french text is too huge again so "DEBUTANT" is a good alternative
EASY : "FACILE"
NORMAL : "NORMAL"
EXTREAM : EXTREME (not sure there is a extream mode in the game ?)

The last thing is "INFORMATION" is not translated by "SOUND MUSEUM", I guess there is no sound museum in RECVX please replace it by "INFORMATION" in the french version if this area is used.

ingnore that. you replace the texts in their places. the replacement text is gona be bigger 99% of the time. most of the rdx has enough space upon the original texts and you can use this space. always relace bottom to up. also shown screenshoots so i can help you. if it become complicated i will make a tautorial. there 2 types of rdx those with enough space and those without space. the latter needs all the pointers to be adjusted because injecting the text will change the size of the file. your adv.afs is working alright, but i cant extract it and when i extract its pvr i see one less mine 13 your is 12. use afs utilities to extract and repack all afs. and dont rename the files i think i see file_0 in your afs that is wrong is starting from file_1

Ok I look carefully at it.

my afs file start to 0 because to 1, because I'm using an exe tool I can use with a .bat.

maybe its not a coruption. but afs util cant regognice it because its created to a way unknown to afs util. but since original afs can open with afs util better keep it that way. also the pvr extractor extract one less pvr compare to mine that is suspect.

I try to understand how pointer works in RDX file decompress.
There is only one I didn't understand, if I did the difference between french and RECVX version I find 0x820 but it's match with no difference of lenght area... How this last one is calculated please ?
