Probably a "selfmade cover" by SOftware Labs back then...but I really like the details...anyone has any idea if this might be "lost id/Apogee" art ?

I cant seem to find a high resolution scan of it...

This is very nostalgic to see the Software Labs disk guy mascot. My family used to get Software Labs magazine back in the early 90s, it was a print magazine where you could basically see the selection of software they have available, and then call or mail order disks of the programs to be delivered to you. I have many disks from Software Labs from my childhood, including ID and Apogee games like Halloween Harry, Cosmos Cosmic Adventure, Commander Keen and Duke Nukem 2, and in my case Software Labs never provided artwork for any of these... maybe because we were always ordering the 5.25" floppy instead of the 3.5"... This doesn't really answer your question, other than to say it doesn't seem to me that Software Labs regularly made their own cover art for shareware games (like some other shareware distributers did)... but then again Wolfenstein 3D was a big deal so they might have made an exception for this release, especially if it was so popular they were trying to have a version to sell at computer stores.

I'm sure you recognize it, but this picture seems like a higher resolution re-draw of the opening splash screen for the game.

Thanks for the drift into the past. :)

Of course I do know a lot about Wolfenstein and Im aware it could be "Software Labs" own cover art. But I really like it...maybe even as a poster on the wall.

A lot of different (official) covers out there for the calssic version :

Cool, I never saw some of these. Wolfenstein was so big at the time. I think the WW2 theme greatly helped increase its popularity. By the way, the same artist who did some cover art for Wolfenstein you displayed also did this notable poster for another 90s shareware game.

Hm it won't let me edit my post. Artist is Ken Rieger. He also did the Spear of Destiny cover art and some others

Ahhh One Must Fall. It wasnt perfect, behind Street Fighter 2....but man, I played it through so often. The music alone was worth it. Good old Epic Megagames. :)

That Commander Keen artwork gets me every time. Looks like the creator just told his son to wear a helmet from work and hold up a squirt gun then sketched him.
