Xbox 360 controller with barcode sticker that says “trial build unit”

Found this in a bucket of broken controllers- and I honestly thought it was a fake, the build quality isn’t the greatest. Is this legit? Most prototypes I have seen have a blank Xbox home button. But the buttons and the clear plastic around the home are different.

Probably exactly what it says - this is normally the last stage before starting full production - you just build a small batch for testing using the exact setup you intend to the main production. Different companies have different names for it (pilot production, trail build, trail run, etc.) but it's basically the same thing - you make a small number of units using the final production process to make sure they work as expected.
